A charming lighthouse near Mackinaw City, next to the State Park. It was surrounded by lilac bushes, with their heavenly scent. Michigan, June 2019
Apparently June in Michigan is lilac time--they were everywhere, with their heavenly scent. They were in colors from white to a deep purple, and in huge bushes. I've never seen (or smelled) so many lilacs. I loved it!
In some areas of the Michigan forests, Eastern Swallowtail butterflies were flying everywhere. On one small forest road I saw this group of them "puddling" in the damp earth, presumably obtaining needed minerals. I was happy they allowed me to move in closer to shoot them, until a couple came by in a dune buggy (only other vehicle on the road) zoomed by and off they flew. Michigan, June, 2019
