This was one of 3 young Piping Plovers seen and photographed at the Lake Michigan shoreline at Sleeping Bear Dunes Lakeshore park. They are so tiny and cute, zipping along the sandy beach, with "mom" trying to corral them for safety. This chick was probably about 2 inches high. Michigan, June, 2019
This is one of the Piping Plovers that I saw on the shores of Lake Michigan, at Sleeping Bear Dunes. I had to climb up and over some high sand dunes to get to the shore, but seeing these endangered birds raising young, was well worth the effort. This bird is only about 7 inches long, so the chick is really tiny--it was probably about 2 inches tall, a tiny bit of fluff running around on the beach. Michigan, June 2019
This little plover is endangered due to habitat loss. At the shoreline of Sleeping Bear Dunes there is a nesting site. We hiked up and over some very high dunes to get a view of this little bird and its young. Michigan, June, 2019
