This pair of Mute Swans was seen fairly near shore on a local lake in Michigan. They were the only swans of this species we saw; we saw two Trumpeter Swans near Mio, MI. Michigan, June, 2019
This very nicely marked ground squirrel had his hole near one motel I stayed in in Michigan. When I first saw him he was standing up straight, Prairie Dog style, but when I stepped nearer, he hunched down to be less visible. He allowed me to get close enough for shots like this, and eventually ducked down into his burrow. After looking at my shots, I was able to ID him as a Thirteen-striped Ground Squirrel. This lighthouse is at Tawas Point State Park, on Tawas Bay, of Lake Huron. It is a noted birdwatching site during migration, to which people travel from all over the country and even the world. June is not the best birding there, but it was a fun stop, walk along the shore, and to visit the lighthouse. Michigan, 2019
