Exploring the Upper Peninsula, near the town of Brimley, we drove through the Indian Community of Bay Mills. Among other things we spotted this old burial ground, with the above ground houses marking the graves. I had not seen this before, except in Alaska, in the town of Eklutna, with the painted spirit houses. I'm not sure of the origin of these Michigan burial houses, which are not painted like those in Alaska. Michigan, June 2019
This sculpture was in Bay Mills Indian Community. The placard said: "This monument, designed by Stephen T. Landis was dedicated on September 11, 1996 In honor of all Veterans of the Bay Mill Indian Community. The three figures represent our Past, Present, and Future Veterans."
This is the Whitefish Point Light, on the northern shore of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. At some times of year it is one of the best birding spots in the state (unfortunately not in June!). Michigan, June, 2019
