Tent City ~ In very early Edmonton, when settlers arrived, there was no housing. A tent city was set up for temporary housing while their houses were being built. The tents were outfitted with furnitures, belongings and stoves for cooking and warmth. This reconstruction of the tent city is in Fort Edmonton Historical Park.
Alberta's First Mosque ~ Il Rashad, believed to be the first mosque built in Alberta, is now housed in Fort Edmonton Historical Park in Edmonton, Alberta. It was completed in 1939.
~ While visiting in Edmonton, I went to Fort Edmonton, an historical park which recounts several historical periods in Edmonton, including streets from the 1920's, the 1900's and 1885 or so. Old buildings have been relocated, old cars, trucks, street cars and a train operate in the "town", and some people in period costume walk about.
