Red-necked Grebe ~ This is a bird that I've only seen in winters in Southern California, and then only rarely. Alberta is a major nesting/breeding site for them, so I was finally able to see them in their breeding finery, with the red neck for which they are named. They were on many lakes throughout the region.

In Your Face ~ Close encounter with this male bison at Elk Island in Alberta, Canada. For a large male bison, snorting and pawing the ground, he had a kind of sweet face...or so I see it in this photograph.
