Exploring a different area of Prairie Creek Redwood State Park, Fern Canyon. The hike up this canyon is wonderful, with the walls of the canyon covered with mosses and various types of ferns. The stream runs through the canyon, keeping it lush and moist. This fern is called Five-fingered Fern, and cascades down the sides of the canyon. 10/6/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotograpy.com
Not quite ready to leave the Prairie Creek State Park trip, from which I posted pics the last two days. A good sized herd of Roosevelt Elk was in the park when I was there. This is a doe and her 2 young. There were some bucks with fairly large antlers, but at the time I was there, they were losing their velvet, and it was hanging in bloody strips from the antlers. I didn't think they would want to be seen like that, so I didn't include any shots of them this way! Seeing these beautiful animals makes me feel sad for the wildlife that may have been destroyed in the very hot and fast-moving fires that have plagued my state recently. A couple of days ago I referenced the 1 million acres that have burned--that was not accurate, it has been over 4 million acres thus far this fire season. 10/5/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
I guess I must be itching to take a road trip up the coast, as I was drawn to some of my old images from Morro Bay. This view if of Morro Rock and the town of Morro Bay from Montana de Oro State Park. It was a brisk December day with great waves and windblown mist. 2/18/20
