Along the Sterling Highway between Kenai and Homer, Alaska, this viewpoint gives a view of Kachemack Bay, approaching the town of Homer. The famous Homer Spit can be seen as it heads almost 5 miles out into the bay. The snow-capped mountains surround the bay. What an introduction to the Homer area! 8/11/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
This bear cache was photographed in the city of Kenai on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. It was in front of an taxidermy shop, and the bear under the cache was a stuffed Polar Bear. The antlers up above are from caribou. I really liked the flowers and grass growing on the roof. Although this cache appeared to be primarily for decorative purposes, this type of structure was used widely in Alaska both in towns and in wilderness areas, for the storage of food and other items, out of the reach of bears. 8/10/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
When I was in Alaska, I took the longest wildlife boat trip out of Seward, all the way to the Northwest Glacier. Along the way, the boat went through the Chiswell Islands, going close to shore to observe flying, swimming and nesting birds, including both Tufted and Horned Puffins. None of those are visible in this view, but navigating close to the islands was pretty exciting. The rugged snow-covered peak is part of the mountain range ringing the bay and open waters. 8/6/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
