Fritz Creek General Store and Post Office. This cute building was along the road in Alaska. Except for a few houses, this appeared to be the "town" of Fritz Creek. Notice that they sell "real food" as opposed to ?????

This shot was from one of the boat trips we took, I believe from Homer to Seldovia, Alaska. It took a route between several islands, giving fairly close view of the local terrain, only reached by water transport.

Momma Moose Grazing

This moose and her two young calves were grazing in the grass right next to the road in Homer, Alaska. I had to zoom my lens in as far as possible to take the photos. The moose seemed completely unconcerned that I was beside the road shooting.

This young moose came from out in the slough, crossed two streets, and looked like it was heading to McDonald's for breakfast.

Chocolate Lily

These Chocolate Lilies were photographed in a wildlife garden area in Homer, Alaska. Although these flowers are very rare (I only know one place they grow) in Southern California, they were abundant in this Alaskan garden area. I saw them 2 or 3 places in the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska.

This is a overview of the town of Homer Alaska. Most of the town is not visible from this site, but the Homer Spit can be seen. The spit extends five miles out into Kachemac Bay.

Arctic Tern

This tern was photographed at Potter Marsh, part of Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Area. This is a nesting site for these pretty terns.

Veronica's Coffee House

The building in which Veronica's is housed was one of the original old town buildings of Kenai, Alaska. This was a fun place to stop for coffee and one of Veronica's homemade goodies.

In Kenai, Alaska, Veronica's is a coffeehouse in Old Town,(a great spot to stop for coffee and a delicious dessert), in one of the original buildings of Kenai. This is a view of one of the tables there, with a painterly effect. It had a very cozy look about it.

This old style totem pole was spotted in the town of Kenai, Alaska. Note the moose antlers on the log cabin.

Orca Playground

Most of the whales we saw on the wildlife boat tour were Humpbacked Whales. On the way back to port we found a group of Orcas playing in the water. This image shows 5 Orcas, a lucky shot.

Driving on the road around Beluga Slough in Homer, Alaska, I saw this boat and just had to stop for a photo, based on its name--Sparhawk--which is my name as well.

The Tufted Puffins and Horned Puffins were nesting and feeding around the same islands off the Kenai Peninsula.

On the outlying islands from Seward, Alaska, the two species of puffins we saw were Tufted Puffins and Horned Puffins. This one is aTufted, based on the long yellow tufts attached at the back of its head. When they fly, the tufts stream out in the wind.

Lily Pond Vista

A few miles north of Seward, this large and beautiful lily pond was right beside the highway. It was filled with Indian Pond Lilies, with their bright yellow blooms. Judith Sparhawk

Arctic Tern

This Arctic Tern was photographed at Potter Marsh in Alaska. This is a nesting site for these terns and Mew Gulls. This one sat and posed for its portrait.

Totem Pole

We didn't see many totem poles in the area of Alaska we visited. This one looked pretty old and authentic.

Northwest Glacier

The Northwest Glacier was the end destination of the 9 hour boat trip we took out of Seward, Alaska. The boat was able to go into the cove into which the glacier was calving, and seals lounged on small icebergs in the water.

There are no roads that connect Seldovia with the rest of the Kenai Peninsula. Boats are the only way in.
