Redlands Winter Morning

The original image was shot with film many years ago. I was on my way to work after a big snow storm overnight, and saw snow on these lover hillsides that almost never get snow. I took a few quick shots of it (and was a little late for work!) It has been a popular photo for years. This is a painterly version of the view, Redlands, CA.

Setting Free the Birds ~ This statue is in Smiley Park in Redlands, next to the original City Hall, currently the Police Annex. This statue was installed after 9-11 as a tribute and memorial.

The first morning after several rainy days, I went out to shoot the new snow on the mountains. This one shows three of the famous Redlands palm trees, and the "R" on the mountainside.

Orange Street Alley

This little alleyway runs between Orange Street and Fifth Street in downtown Redlands, CA. In the last year or so it has gone from a neglected old alley between buildings, to a mural-painted, arch-gated place with outdoor tables and chairs. During the Redlands Downtown Art Walk, it is filled with artists selling their work.

Snow at last! After years of drought, the el nino year has finally delivered sufficient rain (and snow in the mountains) to make it really look like winter. This is the Redlands "R" as seen from the orange groves.

Redlands Post Office

~ The historic US Post Office was built by the WPA, completed in 1935. It is in the Mission/Spanish Revival style. It was listed on the National History Registry in 1985, and has continued as an active post office for almost eighty years. It is currently slated for closure. Judith Sparhawk

AK Smiley Library - Judith Sparhawk

This is an exterior view of the historic public library in Redlands, CA. Yesterday I posted a pic of the interior spiral staircase, which leads up to the tower seen here. The AK Smiley Library was completed in 1898 by the Smiley brothers, who believed that the town of Redlands should have a library for culture, education and enlightenment. The tower was designed for electric lighting, to signify the library's mission" "to give the light of knowledge freely to all who make use of its free privileges." 4/19/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com

Snow Above Redlands

We have had several days of low clouds and rain. Yesterday was the first day with sunny skies, and this view of the mountains above Redlands greeted me when I headed out for the day. I ran back in to get my camera, and took a few shot of all that white stuff in the morning light. I know for you who have been snowed in for weeks or months, this doesn't look like much, but some of our SoCal drought years we never had more than a dusting of snow here and there. This is one of the higher peaks in the San Bernardino Mountains. Of course it wouldn't be Redlands, without getting some orange trees in the foreground. 2/8/19 Judith Sparhawk
