April is the month of blooming orange trees in Redlands. This particular flower was photographed at the beginning of the trail through San Timoteo Canyon the other day. The scent of orange blossoms is intoxicating to me. In years past, when there were many more orange groves in town, the scent of these flowers permeated everything, especially in the quiet of an April evening. Tonight I went out to get my mail, and I could smell this wonderful scent in the air. It made me choose this image as my offering for today. 4/24/19 Judith Sparhawk
I ran across this sculpture in a business park in Redlands yesterday. I made a wrong turn, trying to find a company where I had ordered face masks, and saw this piece of public art. The plaque said it was titled Culmination at Singularity, by Lance Jost, 1991. 4/15/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
About a month ago I made a trip into the San Bernardino Mountains for birding and hiking. It was during a heat wave, and I thought it would be more tolerable than the valley floor. Unfortunately, even at 6,000 feet elevation, it was still pretty warm for the steep hilly hike, and the birds were mostly hunkered down. I did get some shots of the seedheads of Western Salsify. I pulled out those shots tonight and did some cropping and converting to black & white. This was one of my favorites of what I did. I liked the close up view for this frame-filling shot. 8/8/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
