This butterfly was photographed in Oregon several years ago. It is the only swallowtail in the west that has black and white markings rather than yellow. This was the first one I had seen, and it conveniently paused for its portrait. 7/14/22 www.sparhawkphotography.com

This unusual water lily with its variegated lily pads was photographed at the Getty Villa in Malibu, California. The Villa is a wonderful small museum filled with Greek and Roman antiquities, surrounded by gardens, ponds and fountains.
