Wandering around the Salt River, I saw a lot of these large damselflies flying around and lighting on the foliage. When I got back home I found it in my dragonfly book--American Rubyspot Damselfly. I believe it is a female. Gotta love those hairy legs! 11/4/21 www.sparhawkphotography.com
Hiking through the desert scrub near the Salt River, I ran across a group of 6 of the wild horses, and followed them down a steep rocky path to the river. I was able to watch them drinking and feeding on underwater plants. This was one of my favorites in that group. The lighting conditions were difficult, with bright light on the river and darkness under the trees, but I was able to get several shots I was happy with. 11/2/21 www.sparhawkphotography.com
Meanwhile, back at the river....the second full day of seeking the wild horses at Salt River, Arizona, was magical. As hard as I had searched the previous day and a half, on this day I saw my first horses before daylight. I visited several places that day, and saw horses at five different locations. There are several bands of wild horses in the area, and it was a joy to find and watch them, and to get to photograph them. This is one view of the river with a few horses. I'll show some more that I saw much closer. I loved that they are able to live wild and free in such a beautiful place! 11/1/21 www.sparhawkphotography.com
