Back from a couple of days down in San Diego, visiting my son for his birthday, and, of course, birding. One of the new birds for my year list was this Lewis's Woodpecker. I was happy to see him, as they are rare in southern California, occurring here and there in winter. It may be soon on its way to nesting grounds. This one was seen at Santee Lakes Park in San Diego CA. 3/30/23 www.sparhawkohotography.com
I was birding in Fairmount Park in Riverside, CA, when I noticed this man sitting on the ground surrounded by a lot of wild water birds, as he fed them. They were mostly coots and an occasional duck, plus a few geese like this one, After awhile this one climbed up in his lap and allowed him to hug it. It was a strange sight! I will be away from my computer for a few days, so won't be posting or commenting for now. 3/26/23 www.sparhawkphotography.com
On my hike in San Timoteo Canyon recently, many of the wildflowers were yellow, but some of the hillsides were covered with purple, most of it Phacelia like this. My phone didn't do justice to the flowers, but this is a close-up shot of one spray of them. 3/25/23 www.sparhawkphotography.com
