It seems like everywhere I went around San Diego last weekend was blooming with these great daisies all over the place! They were so bright and sunshiny, I just loved it. This is a closer view of a small hillside right beside the San Diego River channel where I was birding. 4/1/23 www.sparhawkphotography.com
This Brandt's Cormorant is nesting at La Jolla Cove, and is showing off her very young nestlings. The cliff on which the cormorants are nesting has dozens of nests, in all stages. A few still had eggs incubating, and some had almost full -grown chicks, with every stage in between. This one had the youngest chicks I saw last Monday when I was birding there. You can see how close some of the nests were to the edge of the cliff. 3/31/23 www.sparhawkphotography.com
Back from a couple of days down in San Diego, visiting my son for his birthday, and, of course, birding. One of the new birds for my year list was this Lewis's Woodpecker. I was happy to see him, as they are rare in southern California, occurring here and there in winter. It may be soon on its way to nesting grounds. This one was seen at Santee Lakes Park in San Diego CA. 3/30/23 www.sparhawkohotography.com
