Right before the lockdown, I made a trip down to San Diego, including a visit to the town of Imperial Beach. Right by the beach, I saw this statue of Captain Morgan on the roof of a bar and restaurant, Ye Old Plank Inn. I realized it referenced Captain Morgan Rum. My curiosity was piqued, and I looked up just who Captain Morgan was. Maybe everyone already knows this, but the rum is named after the 17th century Welsh privateer of the Carribean, Sir Henry Morgan, who died in 1688. He was a privateer, pirate, a wealthy plantation owner, and later was Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica. Since 2017 the rum's label slogan has been "Live Like the Captain". 5/2/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
A few years ago I was given this very fancy and elaborate teapot. I must admit it is a bit frou-frou for my taste, so I don't really use it, except once a year for the annual teaparty we hold at the art gallery where I work. It did occur to me that at some point I should photograph it, " just because". So, what better time than while being sheltered at home? 5/1/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
This is a photograph of a collage I created a few years ago. For over 25 years I taught a creativity workshop. One of the assignments I gave my students was to make a collage from a collection of found images--either a dream board, or things they wished to see or do, or even just things they liked. While I was organizing my art room, I started looking at the many collages I had made for my classes. I realized I really still like them, and began photographing bits and pieces of them. This is a corner of one of those collages. It was fun looking back... 4/30/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
