Ten miles above Portal in Arizona, over a steep, narrow, curvy and very rough road, is Rustler Park and campground in the Chiricahua Mountains. When birding there I discovered this very pretty and interesting mushroom growing out of the forest floor. It was the only one in sight, in among the pine trees. I don't know anything about mushrooms, other than the fact that I only "harvest" them with my camera. I think the extra rain in this monsoon season had increased the mushroom growth, as I saw other, different ones, in other places. 9/3/21 www.sparhawkphotography.com
Out birding the other day--gray and cloudy, but it was warm--the first time this season I hiked without a sweater or sweatshirt! 4/6/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotograpy.com
Driving north on coastal California's famous Highway 1, a bit beyond San Simeon, is Piedras Blanca Beach, home to hundreds of Elephant Seals. When we stopped there recently we did not see any of the biggest male seals with their very protruberant noses, but there were some of the young males "practice fighting", while many female and young napped on the beach. This image is of two of those young "dudes" threatening each other at the shoreline. 10/3/21 www.sparhawkphotography.com
