Wrentit - Judith Sparhawk
I know this isn't the most gorgeous photo ever, but it is significant because you seldom get to see this bird out in the open, and here he was, hopping along the trail. This is a Wrentit, perhaps a new bird for a lot of my SM friends, as it has a limited range, mostly along coastal California and Oregon. It likes chaparral brush and coniferous forests, and is often heard but seldom seen. It has a distinctive song, and you may hear it really well, but he remains invisible. Imagine my surprise to see this one walking on the trail at Montano de Oro State Park, Morro Bay, California. When you do see him, you see he has a fairly large head, a tipped up tail, and a pale eye.
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! ☘ ☘ ☘
