Lady in Lace

When I was at the Day of the Dead festival on Sunday, I noticed this young lady in costume. She had arrived with a couple of friends, and they wandered among the booths near the performances. I really liked her look, so I took several shots of her, and later worked on a few of them. This was one of my favorites. I must admit all this happened in the early afternoon, so I played around with the colors to give the effect of a much darker time of day. After the Face Paint

This is the young lady I photographed at the Day of the Dead festival last weekend. When she first arrived at the event she was in costume; she wandered to a face-painting booth and waited in line. Some of the shots I got of her were while she waited. This was after she got her face painted. I used a completely different filter and coloring for a different look. I prefer the other, I think, but it was fun experimenting. 11/6/19 Judith Sparhawk

I had the opportunity to photograph a lovely lady, Adele, in her home. She is 81 years young, and a very charming woman with a charming home.

Lunch Date??

When I first photographed this sculptured art piece entitled Lunchbreak, I was disappointed that no one came by to sit on the bench with the worker on his break. I recently realized that I had a possible lunch date for him in the pics I took of my friend Adele the other day. This young man was part of the crew on the Bill of Rights, the ship I went out on at the Tall Ships Festival. He said he was very interested in learning everything about ships, and sang some old traditional sea shanties. It turned out he was only 15 years old.

Solitude in the Garden

I spent yesterday afternoon in the Huntington Library Gardens in the Pasadena, CA area. I was with a group of family and friends, adtive and chatting and enjoying the flowers and each other. I saw this woman, sitting alone on a bench down the path, and liked the stillness and solitude she had found in "her" garden space.
