On my walk on Sunday, I noticed a large number of Painted Lady butterflies flying around. By the number, it appears that migration in in process. Some springs we have huge numbers migrating through, so this may just be the beginning. They were attracted to the blooming Lantana plants, the only place they seemed to light--otherwise they just flew and flew. This common species is Vanessa Cardui, which occurs many places i the world. 3/24/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
This grasshopper showed up on my patio one day, just a tiny little thing, but over time grew to about 3 times its size, mostly staying on my Boston Fern. When I would water the plants, wherever it was, it would hop off and get out of the way of the water. In this shot it had hopped up on a plant at the stucco side of the house. I'm not up for the extreme macros that Bruno does, but I liked the way this guy looked. 3/5/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
