Female California Dogface ~ There were several different species of butterflies in the mountains today. This one is a California Dogface, the state butterfly. This is a female, with paler colors, quite lovely with its green-yellow with pink markings.
Common Whitetail ~ I revisited the pond I found last year at Cherry Creek State Park in Colorado, to photograph the dragonflies. This Common Whitetail was probably the most common one this year, returning again and again to the pondside rocks to light and sit in the sun.
Twelve Spot Skimmer ~ This beautiful large dragonfly was flitting over the pond, lighting on the twigs, vying with others for resting spots above the water. They did not seem to mind the spider webs on the branches.
