When in the mountains recently there were quite a lot of different butterflies, but this Buckeye Butterfly was almost the only one I managed to photograph. It is a bit worn, but I've always liked this species, and don't see them often. This one lit on the ground, and was very well camouflaged. 6/22/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
I photographed this small butterfly at Salton Sea recently. It is not the most beautiful butterfly, but I hadn't seen it before to my knowledge, so I shot it. Trying to identify it, I became intrigued by the small family of Cloudywings, with such unusual names as Coyote Cloudywing, Confused Cloudywing, Jalapus Cloudywing, Drusius Cloudywing. 6/9/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
During my recent trip to San Diego, I made a birding stop at the Bird & Butterfly Garden at Tijuana River Valley Regional Park, Imperial Beach, CA. This Western Swallowtail Butterfly was flying around the flowering bushes. I got a few shots of it as it rested and fed at these flowers. 5/3/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
