Peek-A-Boo ~ I was birding at San Jacinto Wildlife Area, and found many dragonflies flying around. This Flame Skimmer was one of them.
Hackberry Emperor ~ This Hackberry Emperor was one of several types of butterflies that were "puddling" in water left from summer rains in Southeast Arizona. The butterflies extract salts or minerals from the damp earth.
Face-off of the Lubbers ~ These two large grasshopper-type insects occur in large numbers in some areas of Southeast Arizona during the monsoon season in summer. The one on the left is a Plains Lubber, and right one is a Horse Lubber. Very strange names for very strange insects. I had never seen these before--they are quite amazing.
