This female Four-spotted Skimmer dragonfly was photographed at Clinton E. Lee Natural Area in Devon, Alberta, Canada. This was taken several years ago, but hearing that the Canadian border is opening to tourist travel, is making me realize that one of these days I may actually be able to see my grandchildren in Edmonton, after 2 years! Looking at my Canada pics may have to do for now.. 8/10/21 www.sparhawkphotography.com
I noticed that there was an active wasp nest in my neighbor's patio, and I asked if I could photograph the wasps. This one was working on the nest. I liked the way you can see the details in its eye in this close view. 8/9/21 www.sparhawkphotography.com
In the mountains I saw quite a few Yarrow plants in bloom, and on one of them was this wasp, a type I'd never seen before. Back at home, my field guide helped me figure out it was a type of Solitary Wasp, the thread-waisted type. It mostly looked like a Great Golden Digger Wasp (great name), but it is supposed to have red legs. The other possibles weren't quite right either. I think I'm going to have to settle for "wasp" or Solitary Wasp. 7/13/21 www.sparhawkphotography.com
