Queen Butterfly ~ This female Queen was photographed at the edge of Pena Blanca Lake in Southeast Arizona.
This snail (actually a baby snail with a shell about a half inch across) came crawling out of this Calla Lily which I had brought into the house to photograph. It went from a flower shoot to a snail shoot, which produced nice snail close-ups that I later used in my S is for Snails shot for the alphabet challenge.
This caterpillar of the White-lined Syphnx Moth was voraciously munching the little remaining foliage on this plant. It was photographed on a hike in San Timoteo Canyon recently. I only saw two of them. One year a few years ago there were areas farther out in the desert, that had hundreds of this species of caterpillar. I haven't been in those areas to check, but when I saw these two, it made me wonder if the extra flowers and other plants this spring might have brought them out in large numbers again. 4/25/19 Judith Sparhawk
