Driving up the coast above Morro Bay, there is a beach well-known for the Elephant Seals that live there. We stopped to see them, and while most of them were loafing on the beach, these two males were challenging each other with loud roars, chest-bumping, and generally threatening each other. At a certain point the one one the left backed off and swam into the surf, apparently the loser.
Not to be outdone by Rick, here is my entry for Ground Hog Day. I know this Yellow-bellied Marmot isn't quite a Ground Hog, but it's certainly as close as a Prairie Dog! I chose this view of him because you can see his shadow--has he noticed it yet? Sorry Chicago, Michigan, Manitoba, winter isn't quite over yet! ;-) 2/2/19 Judith Sparhawk
