When I was birding down by the San Diego River last weekend there quite a few birds around, including lots of terns, and this one Black Skimmer. I usually see them in flocks, but this individualist was flying up and down the river, "skimming" for food. His lower bill is well longer than the top one, and he dips it into the water as he flying just above the surface. I appreciated his repetitive patrolling of that stretch of river, giving me several opportunities to shoot him, despite the distance. 7/31/21 www.sparhawkphotography.com
I went birding out at San Jacinto Wildlife Area a few days ago. Among other birds, there were quite a few Black-necked Stilts wading in the shallow water. This is a shot of two of them...or do I see four? ;-) 11/1/20 My Website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
When I was out at San Jacinto Wildlife Area recently, this Snowy Egret was one of the birds I photographed. It was in the middle of the day with bright sunlight, so it was difficult to get the shot I wanted, especially of a pure white bird. I still liked seeing him down in among the grasses. REMINDER: Next Sunday, Oct 25th is the last Sunday of the month. For several years we have used that day to post pink images for Breast Cancer Awareness. We were challenged to do this by Tina Marie Gardner, a long-time Smugger, who fought a very long battle with breast cancer. Last year she said that she knew she would not be here this year to challenge us, and asked that we all post pink that day in remembrance of her and for BC Awareness. She has since passed away, and I hope we can honor Tina in this way. So, Oct 25, POST PINK! (For those of you who are new to the dailies, you won't remember Tina, but it would be really nice if we can blast the page with pink that day.)
