This bird was patiently sitting on her nest, incubating eggs. She was at La Jolla Cove, in the San Diego area. The wispy white feathers on her shoulders are part of the breeding plumage.

This cormorant has two half-grown nestlings, and they were hungry and begging. At this stage their food is fish regurgitated from the throat of the adult. One chick was noisily demanding food, pecking at the bill of the adult.
