~ This winter plumaged plover was photographed on Coronado Island, in San Diego. Come spring his breeding plumage will include the black belly for which he is named. I liked his shadow mirroring his position.
~ This gull was photographed on Coronado Island, in San Diego. The speckling on his head is winter plumage. He is probably the most common inland gull, but are common on the coast as well. I liked the color of his eye.
Flying Black Skimmer ~ This photograph was taken in San Diego. He was coming down to water level, about to begin the "skimming" behavior, using the long lower mandible to catch fish in flight.
