I was photographing this Snowy Egret as it was quietly wading in the water and feeding. Suddenly something stirred it up, causing its plumes to raise up and ruffle. Whatever it was passed, and it went back to fishing.
A colony of nesting Brandt's Cormorants exists in La Jolla Cove, San Diego area. This male was displaying again and again, in hopes of attracting a female. Most of the birds were already nesting, some with half-grown young, so his chances were likely pretty slim.
