Being Coy ~ This juvenile Brown Booby stayed perched on this rocky shore of Salton Sea, preening, and seemed unafraid. He allowed me to photograph him for some time. He was still perched there when I left. He is a rare late-summer visitor to the Sea.
Common Murre Nesting Colony ~ This image is only a very small part of a nesting colony of Common Murres at Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin County, California. There were thousands and thousands of birds on a rocky "island" just offshore, viewable from the lighthouse overlook. Nesting appeared to be over, but the birds remained on the rocks, flying out into the sea for feeding. It was quite a sight.
