I arrived at this location at Salton Sea before sunrise on January 1st. Looking eastward as the sun rose, large flocks of wintering Snow Geese took to the air, silhouetted against the golden sky. 1/4/19 Judith Sparhawk
Looking westward over Salton Sea, prior to the sun coming up, the sky was painted pink. In the increasing light, the Snow Geese that roost on the water overnight, fly out in large flocks, to start the day, foraging in nearby fields. 1/4/19 Judith Sparhawk
This flight of Snow Geese was photographed at Salton Sea in California. Thousands of these geese winter in this area. This was taken in January--most of them have migrated north already to their nesting grounds. I liked this view, as it shows a bit of the water at the bottom, but also shows the red hills and the mountains beyond, with, of course, the flying geese. 3/12/19 Judith Sparhawk
