Red Tailed Hawk at Nest ~ I was birding at the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve in the desert of Southern California, and enjoyed seeing and photographing a Red Tailed Hawk nest. There were four young, at various stages of growth. This photograph is of one of the parents, just back to the nest after hunting for lunch.
Baby Red Tailed Hawks ~ This photo shows the larger two of the four young hawks. The one on the left is still in the nest, but the right one has climbed up the tree limb above the nest, flapping his wings as he climbed. He would frequently scurry back down into the nest for safety, and certainly when Mom returned with food.
Coming In For A Landing ~ Usually when I see Burrowing Owls, they are on the ground, near their burrows. If they fly, it is most often flying away from me. I was happy to capture this one in flight, coming in for a landing.
