~ This Red Tail Hawk baby gathered his strength after resting on the ground, and finally flew off, several trees away from the nest site. I hope he made it back in time for Mom or Dad to bring home some lunch, as he sure wasn't ready to take care of himself yet. Still, it was exciting to see his first flight attempts, and to capture a few shots.
~ These are the two older baby Red Tailed Hawks, practicing flapping their wings, while in the safety of the nest. Their antics were fun to watch and to capture with the camera.
Red Tailed Hawk at Nest ~ I was birding at the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve in the desert of Southern California, and enjoyed seeing and photographing a Red Tailed Hawk nest. There were four young, at various stages of growth. This photograph is of one of the parents, just back to the nest after hunting for lunch.
