This shrike was photographed at Salton Sea on January 1st of this year.
While birding at Salton Sea I spotted a few of these very tiny flitty birds. I've never gotten good photos of them before (most of those I took were terrible, hidden in the bushes) but this one showed just how perky and cute they are. 1/5/19 Judith Sparhawk
I visited Huntington Library Gardens today, taking many photos of plants in the gardens. I also spotted several of these Red-Whiskered Bulbuls. They are birds native to Asia, with wild populations that have become established in Southern California. I was taking my new lens on its maiden voyage, so to speak, and so far I'm quite happy with it. This bird was shot at 400 mm, handheld. 12/20/18 Judith Sparhawk
