This amazing bird is a Black-throated Magpie-Jay, a bird native to Northwestern Mexico. There is a small flock that sometimes flies into the Bird & Butterfly Garden in the Tijuana River Valley, less than a mile from the border. They don't seem to be bothered by border walls, they just fly on over! ;-) They have a very noisy call, especially when flying and feeding together. They are about 30 inches long, much of that length being the tail. 7/8/20 My website" www.sparhawkphotography.com
This Black-tailed Gnatcatcher was one of the birds I added to my year bird list down by Salton Sea last Sunday. He is a flitty little guy, about 4 inches long, constantly moving around in desert brush or trees. Getting him to sit still for a second for this shot was amazing! This isn't the best shot, as I cropped it a lot, but it does show his characteristic black cap, eye ring, and black tail with white patches. 6/4/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
This little cutie is a Vermillion Flycatcher, a small but beautiful bird that often perches on a tree branch, then flies out to catch a yummy insect on the fly. The bright flash of red is such a treat as it flies by. This one was photographed at San Jacinto Wildlife Area this spring. 6/10/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
