Roadrunner on the Run ~ This was my last shot of this roadrunner as he stepped off his look-out rock and headed into the undergrowth. I looked away for a second, and then he was gone, never to be seen again. This was taken at Whitewater Wildlands Preserve in the desert near Palm Springs, CA.
~ As I headed up to the east side of the Sierras for birding, I stopped at the small old mining town of Randsburg, and saw several Chukars. I was glad I made the stop, as I missed them at my usual place out of Big Pine, California.
The Turkey Trot ~ This view of the wild turkeys shows them all puffed up with their tails raised and fanned. I think this was a reaction to nearby thunder from a lightening storm in the area. Unfortunately, the turkeys are in molt, and only have a few full tail feathers left, as the new ones grow in. Their fanned tails weren't very impressive.
