The Turkey Trot ~ This view of the wild turkeys shows them all puffed up with their tails raised and fanned. I think this was a reaction to nearby thunder from a lightening storm in the area. Unfortunately, the turkeys are in molt, and only have a few full tail feathers left, as the new ones grow in. Their fanned tails weren't very impressive.
~ These are just a few of a flock of Wild Turkeys that live and roam around in Madera Canyon, in the Santa Rita Mountains in Southeast Arizona. There had been a lot of summer rain, and the grass was growing high.
Female Sage Grouse ~ This female grouse was just outside Bodie State Park. There were at least 30 to 40 birds around, feeding on the grasses and sage brush in the fields beyond the road.
