This cluster of lilies was blooming next to my building the other day. They are the kind I grew up knowing as Naked Ladies, but I wasn't sure if that was just a family nickname for them, or the "real thing". I was hesitant to Google naked ladies, as I wasn't sure just what might show up, but sure enough that's the name of these flowers. It is also called Amaryllis Belladonna, Surprise Lily, Mystery Lily, and a few other names. These names come from the fact that they grow up and bloom after their foliage has died down, coming as a "surprise", with their naked stalks seeming to come out of the ground. 8/5/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
This flower was blooming next to my building today. I know it's a fairly common plant, and I've always thought of it as a lily, but I'm not sure what it really is. I'm sure one of our Smuggers will recognize it. It seems to be a pretty hardy plant, growing in full sun, and this time of year here, that's a LOT of sun! Our high temp tomorrow is, blessedly, supposed to be down to 99 degrees! 8/4/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
These pretty foxgloves were photographed in the gardens of Kimberly Crest, one of Redlands' more famous mansions. This only a small portion of the very tall stalk of flowers, to show the details. 7/27/20 My website: www.sparhawkphotography.com
