Yesterday I posted a view of the rotunda at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. This view includes the sculpture in the middle of the room, titled Heroic Figure, by Julia Bracken Wendt, 1914. On the green stone around the base, were the words history, science, music. In this sculpture there are three women, back to back, all holding up a leaded glass lighted sphere--the sun? the moon? the earth? 2/20/20
I spent a few hours today up in Los Angeles visiting with my daughter and family, who were down from Canada. We went to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. This i,mage is from inside the Haage Family Rotunda, from one of the older parts of the museum. There were many wonderful architectural details in the rotunda. 2/19/20
This is a view of the outside passageway at the Barstow, CA train depot. It is (or was?) the site of one of the Harvey House restaurants that Fred Harvey built at railroad stations throughout the southwest from 1876 to 1901 when he died. The company continued, and had 84 restaurants at its peak. I liked the architectural details, light and shadows. 2/8/20 Judith Sparhawk
