Walking in the Snow
Photographing the snowfall from the house where I was staying, I was happy to see this woman walking by, to add to this image. Her red hat added a nice touch.
Red White & Green
During a snow storm in Edmonton last week, I noticed this red-stemmed bush with snow building up on it, contrasted against the green trees behind it.
One afternoon during my recent visit to Edmonton, Alberta, it snowed quite heavily. Being from Southern California, I don't get much chance to photograph snow in progress. This was one shot that I got that afterooon.
Snow in March is considered more of a spring thing, but it was really coming down that afternoon. In the foreground are Mountain Ash berries, the preferred food of Bohemian Waxwings this time of year.
The nuthatch was photographed this week in Edmonton, Alberta, in the forest around the Saskatchewan River Valley. It's still snowy in March, and in fact, snowed 3 or 4 times in the last week.
Female Downy Woodpecker
This cute little woodpecker was photographed in the forest around the Saskatchewan River Valley in Edmonton, Alberta. This view shows the tuft of downy feathers above the upper bill, likely the origin of the name, Downy Woodpecker.
This little female Downy Woodpecker was photographed in Edmonton, Alberta. It was in the forest surrounding the Saskatchewan River Valley. It was feeding on this fungal growth on a tree trunk. This view shows the little downy tuft of feathers at the base of the upper bill--likely the origin of its name.
Bubbles & Ice
While out for a walk in an Edmonton neighborhood, I saw lots of ice, including this thawing ice with water running under it. As the water ran, bubbles formed in openings in the ice. I liked the look of it.
March in Edmonton is still cold and icy and snowy, but thaws often happen between snows. This shot was of ice at the side of the street, with ice melt water running under the ice. The water was bubbling up here and there. I liked the textures of the ice and the bubbles.
Another shot of the fuzzy pussy willow-like growths on the firest trees in Edmonton. Any ideas of what tree it is???

Faux Pussy Willows
I ran across some budding trees in the forest, and it made me think of pussy willows. BUT they were not willows--before I saw these, I thought they were aspen trees. For anyone who knows aspens well, do they do this before the leaves come out??
Curve in the River
This is the Saskatchewan River that runs through Edmonton, Alberta. The blue area is the only part of this very wide river that was not iced over. This is looking through the trees in the forest above the river.
A view of downtown Edmonton, this one showing many shapes, colors and angles.
Downtown Edmonton has many reflective buildings and windows. It was fun shooting various angles.
This view shows just the glass pyramid type roof of Edmonton's City Hall.
