I walked out on the Imperial Beach pier on Christmas morning. Looking down from the pier, I watched the waves breaking, and they had this wonderful color and pattern, always moving, always changing. Imperial Beach, CA.
Watching the breaking waves from above on Christmas morning, I saw this amazing color and shape. Just beautiful. Imperial Beach, CA.
Amazing Grace Under Sail
This is a re-do of an image captured a few years ago at the Tall Ships Festival in Dana Point, California. I gave it a more painterly look with Topaz.
Cannon Beach View
Low tide at Cannon Beach.
Low Tide at Indian Beach
Indian Beach is around a point or two from Cannon Beach. This low tide morning allowed people to walk far out on the sand, which had been covered by surf not long before. The fog bank hovered at the horizon line.
Walking on Indian Beach
Low tide allowed a walk on Indian Beach.
Fogless Day at Boiler Bay
Boiler Bay is a point on the Oregon Coast, south of Newport, often shrouded in fog. This day there was blue sky and sea!
View From North Head
After crossing the long bridge, decided to explore this area of Washington for a morning. Went to Cape Disappointment, including North Head, where the North Head Lighthouse is. This was the view.
Down the Beach
A view of Cannon Beach, from Ecola State Beach lookout.
This beautiful beach along the northern Oregon coast was photographed from Ecola State Park.
Cannon Beach, Oregon
Another view of Cannon Beach, showing the deep beach with multiple waves. I liked the patterns of waves on the beach.
Having fun with a filtered nautilus shell in the midst of kelp in the ocean.
Four Times the Fun
This little girl was so cute, playing on the beach today, I took several shots of her. It was fun creating a composite of four of these shots.
Red & Yellow
A surfer at Venice Beach, Los Angeles.
Another of my mermaid series.
Close-up of the mermaid swimming.
A version of the underseas series, the mermaid leading you into her kingdom.
Surprise at Sea
Took a few days off to run up the coast, for cooler temps, coastal birds, and whatever I would happen onto. Surprise!
Eagle Eye View ~ On the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, the road from Port Angeles to Cape Flattery has many beautiful views. At places the road is well above the sea, giving views from tree level, including the occasional Bald Eagle, always a breathtaking moment.
Dancing Waves ~ The beauty of high surf at Morro Bay, California, in December 2012.
Morro Bay Waves ~ On the ocean side of "the rock" at Morro Bay.
Wave in a Turquoise Sea ~ The ocean was a beatiful shade of blues, turquoise, greens, this last week in January. Nice break between rainstorms.
Waves Upon Waves ~ Beautiful sea, beautiful waves, January at Morro Bay, CA.
Seascape at The Rock ~
Rainbow at the Rock ~ Looking across the bay at Morro Rock, known locally as "The Rock", the mist blowing off the wave tops formed rainbows in the early morning sun. I understand that these are really called "sunbows", since they weren't caused by rain. No matter, it was a beautiful sight.
The Perfect Wave ~ I made a trip up the coast this week, up as far as Morro Bay. I was out early for birding, and was astounded by the high surf and the beauty of the waves. The breeze whipped up mist from the wave tops. I couldn't stop shooting the waves--each one unique and beautiful.
The Wave ~ I loved the waves, waiting for the curl, missing it most of the time, but suddenly seeing it and capturing the moment in time...
Surf's Up! ~ Several hardy souls were taking advantage of the high surf, making it through the breakers to ride the waves in to shore.
Homage to Sharkbayte ~ Of all the crazy things one can see on Venice Beach, this statue of a shark with its sunglesses, lei and surfboard, is one of the more humorous. Check out that six-pack!
Fashion Statement ~ This photograph captures part of a display of sunglasses outside a shop on Venice Beach. Viewing in the larger sizes shows reflections of beach activities in the sunglesses.
Playing in the Surf x3 ~ A composite showing this cute girl playing on the beach. Love her expressions in each capture.
Surfer Guy Wipes Out ~ This photograph captures the last moment before this surfer went down into the waves. It was fun getting this stop-action shot.
Surfer Guy at Venice Beach ~ A visit to Venice Beach encompasses many sights, all kinds of craziness, and is always fun. This man was surfing, and I enjoyed photographing him in this endeavor.
Point Loma Seascape ~ I was out on Point Loma, in the San Diego area, enjoying the birds and the sea air. The tide was coming in, and it was a fairly high surf. This photograph shows some of the white water from the surf, and one wave in motion.
Point Loma Surfer ~ The surf was fairly high, and several surfers were off Point Loma, taking advantage of the day. I was mostly photographing birds, but when none were flying by, I'd look out at the surfers and shoot them.
Sailing to the Moon ~ The almost-full moon rose during the sail, and The Curlew made a great image with the rising moon.
High in the Rigging ~ Two courageous and agile crewmen work, high in the rigging of the Brig Pilgrim, preparing the sails.
Lady in Chains ~ I really liked this ship's figurehead. As it was such an overcast morning, there was little color in the shot. I tried it in black and white as one option for showing off the detail in the shot.
Sunset Sail ~ After the sun had set, the sky took on this beautiful afterglow, which shows in the sails of Spirit of Dana Point.
American Pride ~ The dark red sails of the American Pride stand out against the white sails of the other ships.
**Selected as a finalist in Photography Forum's Photo Contest and will appear in their "Best Photography of 2012".
Moon in the Sails ~ The almost-full moon rose during the sail, and made a great contrast against the ship's sails.
Battle At Sea ~ Two ships come together and clash with the booms of the cannons. (No one was harmed in the making of this photograph!)
Cannon Battle At Sea ~ Loud booms of the cannon, cannon smoke, the battle wages between American Pride and Spirit of Dana Point, two of the tall ships at the festival.
The California Under Sail ~ The sails were almost all up, and The California headed out of the harbor to sea
The California Heading Out ~ This ship, shown against the town of Dana Point, is heading out into open sea.
At the Cove ~ One of the little coves at Laguna Beach, California.
