Magenta & Green
This very pretty cactus was photographed at the Living Desert, in the columnar cactus garden. I loved the wonderful spines and the striking colors of this cactus.

In August in southeast Arizona, these round barrel-type cactus bloom, forming a crown on flowers, yellow-to-orange, colors of sunset.

This strange-looking cactus was in Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona. Eight shoots came out from a base, with buds coming to bloom on all eight shoots. The whole plant stood about 5 feet high.
This pretty little flowering cactus was found at Saguaro National Park in Arizona. In a place with huge cacti, towering many feet into the sky, this little cactus was about 5 inches high, maybe 2 or 3 inches wide. It had dainty little flowers, and was a treat to find.

Flower Sprout ~ The Huntington Library cactus and succulent garden has some really strange plants. This one qualifies, I'd say. Strange, but interesting.

One Night Stand ~ This beautiful Ceres flower blooms at night, to be pollinated by a certain moth, then wilts and dies the next day. This flower was still open and waiting for my camera, soon to be gone. Huntington Library Garden.

Aloe in Lavender ~ After shooting many aloe plants at the Los Angeles County Arboretum, I had fun playing with the colors on my computer. I liked this (very unlikely) lavender and turquoise version.
Aloe in Green ~ During a trip to the Los Angeles County Arboretum, I visited the aloe garden, enjoying shooting the various lines, patterns and stripes of the many aloe species. This was one of them, in its natural colors.
With Purple Thorns ~ The variety of colors and shapes of the succulent/cactus type plants made for a fun photo shoot.

Thorns of Green ~ I spent a little while at San Ysabel Mission, enjoying the gardens, the chapel, and the historic cemetary. In the garden there were a variety of yucca-type plants, which I enjoyed shooting, making thorny abstracts.

Yellow & Green ~ I believe this plant is the one called the Century Plant, as it supposedly blooms only one in a hundred years. This one wasn't in bloom, but its colors were great.
Yellow Cactus Blooms ~ Most of the barrel cactus plants in Southeast Arizona had a deeper orange bloom. This one had more yellow blossoms, which were very pretty.
Crown of Blooms ~ One view of the beautiful cactus blossoms on the top of a large barrel cactus. This was photographed in Montosa Canyon in the Santa Rita Mountains in Southeast Arizona this August.
Barrel Cactus Blooms ~ On a recent trip to Southest Arizona, I saw many of these barrel cactus plants with orange blooms crowning the tops. Apparently August is the month for this cactus to bloom, and they were in all their glory.
Cactus Flowers Four ~ These dazzling flowers festooned the hanging stems of this cactus. I took way too many shots, but I couldn't stop, they were so beautiful.
Flame Cactus ~ The several blooms on this beautiful cactus reminded me of flames, with its brilliant orange-pink colors. There were about a dozen blooms at once, and it was so stunning, I almost felt honored to have had the chance to see and shoot it.
Flames in the Garden ~ I had an opportunity to tour the Sam Maloof House and Garden. This internationally recognized woodworker and furniture maker has an amazing home build by Sam, and is a treat to see, now a museum in his memory. This gorgeous cactus plant was in the gardens there.
Cactus Abloom ~ These cactus flowers were so beautiful, and I couln't resist one very close-up view, showing the wonderful sweep of stamens.
Succulents ~ This mass of succulent plants was a small part of a succulent wreath at the gardens. I liked all the variations in colors and shapes.
